Dusty and Nikki Green are Panhandle natives who host a PBS show which features their adventures to over 50 countries across 6 different continents. During their travels, they’ve had the great opportunity to work with and learn from dozens of world class tour companies, guides, resorts, and destinations. They have brought those skills back to the area and opened the first adventure tour company in the Texas Panhandle. Saints Roost Expedition Company provides biking, hiking, and safari tours in side-by-sides or an air-conditioned van. They have enjoyed learning the history of the area and passing it on to others. For instance, there are roughly 200 bison in Caprock Canyons State Park that are direct descendants of the original Charles Goodnight bison herd, and they are now protected by the State of Texas. As you can see from the video, they rule the road! Dusty and Nikki are motivated by the idea that they can make a difference and make an impact on tourism in this area, and in doing so, they make an impact on a lot of little communities in the area that have traditionally not received the attention they deserve. They obviously want to be successful financially, to grow and to continue, and they feel if they focus on doing it the right way and if their hearts are in the right place, financial success will follow. Duty and Nikki attempted to write their own business plan and were turned away. They were referred to America’s Small Business Development Center at West Texas A&M University and met with Ana Ramirez, their business consultant. She guided them through the process of writing a strong business plan and provided them with financial projections that ultimately got them the attention and financing they needed from the bank to get started.
