LeAnn Durfey has always wanted to open her own business. She found a niche market in shredding paper and decided that the timing was right and felt if she was ever going to open a business, now was the time. She built a business plan and presented it to a private investor. He immediately thought the idea was great and funded the project. She then purchased a shredding truck and portable containers. While it was slow going at first, she kept grinding her way to profit. Eventually, customers found her, and she made her way to a positive cash flow business. She is now searching for ways to expand her business and continues to seek innovative ways to dispose of paper goods responsibly. LeAnn worked with the SBDC for several weeks compiling a business plan that was tailor-made for her business. Market research was gathered from both primary and secondary sources enabling LeAnn to present a well-defined plan. She now looks forward to fulfilling her dream by embarking on other small business ownership.
