Susan Devore first came to the SBDC in 2006 for advice on buying an existing Franchise business: Diamontrigue of Lubbock. After a successful ownership transition, the new owner continued consulting with her SBDC advisor on a regular basis over the years, making sure that she stayed on goal compared with her financial projections, and discussing various business strategies. In 2015, Susan expanded her services with the opening of Royal Hummingbird Studio, an area exclusive fully interactive custom jewelry design service that allows customers to create, visualize and bring to life their own uniquely designed jewelry pieces. In 2019, Susan participated in an SBDC/Texas Tech student engagement project that allowed graduate marketing students to help solve real life business problems, and in 2021, she took advantage of a multi-week ProfitMastery training opportunity through SBDC’s CARES funding. As a small business owner, Susan Devore is always looking for ways to improve her professional skills and her business, as evidenced by her going back to school in 2019 to start her Graduate Gemologist training, in order to become a better resource for her design clients and customers. Susan was recognized in 2013 as the SBA West Texas District Office’s Small Businessperson of the Year – Lubbock Area, and in 2018 she received a Texas Governor’s Small Business Forum Small Business Award.
