The Copelands came to the SBDC to get help developing a business plan to buy an existing construction company. After much hard work, the SBDC presented the couple with a business plan that was bank ready. When the negotiations broke down between the buyer and seller, the Copelands decided to create their own company. Billy and Belinda returned to the SBDC so that they could work on a business plan that would help them secure a loan to create a construction company from scratch. The SBDC advised the clients to apply for an SBA 504 loan, available through a certified development corporation in tandem with a commercial lender.  The Copelands worked with the SBDC to revise the plan so that they could present the updated plan to their lenders. Upon receipt and review of the new plan, the Copelands were approved for their loan. They now have a business that they can call their own in a local construction industry that has been thriving.
