Karen Hybner met with the SBDC to discuss her desire to open a coffee shop in the downtown square in Slaton, Texas. Karen wanted to make sure that she had “all their ducks in a row” before opening. The plan was to open a coffee shop/café that served coffee drinks and food items with a focus on healthier choices. The SBDC assisted Karen in identifying the applicable licenses, permits and registrations needed to legally operate her cafe. Humble Grounds Cafe opened in Slaton, Texas in March of 2020 with an equity investment of $25,000. Despite the challenges of opening during the onset of the pandemic, the business has been able to thrive and is fast becoming a community gathering point in the downtown square.
